Society Professional Journalists (SDX Board and SDX Foundation)
Harnisch Foundation President Ruth Ann Harnisch joined the Society of Professional Journalists back in the 1970s, when she was consumer reporter Ruth Ann Leach at (then) WLAC-TV, the CBS affiliate in Nashville, Tennessee (USA).
Back then, her stories were shot and edited on film, and she was the only “girl” on the news. The Society was a source of education and community among competitors, as it is today. Ruth Ann has been a member in each of four decades, and has served on the Board of the Sigma Delta Chi Foundation.
Information from a free and fearless press is an essential component of healthy communities, and the Harnisch Foundation has supported a variety of the Society’s programs, workshops, and initiatives to preserve and protect ethical journalism.
